i like the quotes that open the chapters of the book i've just picked up, 'why we run' by bernd heinrich--
arthur schopenhauer: every parting gives a foretaste of death, every reunion a hint of resurrection.

d.h. lawrence: be a good animal, true to your animal instincts.

oprah winfrey: running is the greatest metaphor for life, because you get out of it what you put into it (oh, O, you are a wise one).

shakespeare: things in motion sooner catch the eye than what not stirs.
