it's a figtree is what it is. should have known that. two of these weedy treelike plants were cut down in our vacant lot over the weekend, the wood and drying leaves and hard green fruit, getting sticky in two piles in the sun. but still, far in the corner on the other side of this brick wall, in someone's backyard, are two or three supertall, long trunk figs safe from the chainsaw.
apartment stuff is still up in the air, but honing in. michael, the fun realtor i walked around with yesterday, apparently called in sick, and my appointment to see the third floor had to be postponed till tomorrow. i think he must have extended his nighttime fishing rendezvous with his buddies into a party and/or too many beers.
and so these sentences clip along, while the traffic drags out in long lines of softly buzzing cars n people and elliot smith croons into my ear 'everything reminds me of her' and i sit strapped in with myself trying not to pay attention to my thoughts and just be smooth and light which kind of works. sooooolaaaar pleeeeexuuuus.large curd cottage cheese. mcdonald's icecream cone. watercoloring a formerly orange and cream easychair. i dreamed last night that the brakes on my car gave out and this cat that i think was mine was suddenly paralyzed in its two back legs, and then suddenly its digestive system didn't work, and he was outside but had never been an outside cat before, and was starving but couldn't catch anything to eat and even if he could, couldn't get it down, and was dragging himself around with his fur all crazy. i tried to pick him up and he immediately began sucking on this bottle of some fluid that i had in my hand but rabidly like it wouldn't actually come out and wouldn't actually quench his thirst, then he climbed down my back and bit my bum like he wanted to eat a piece of it but it wouldn't come off and he wouldn't let go and it really hurt. i had to get up in such a hurry that i forgot about the dream until sometime later driving in the car and it gave me a shiver. umm, do you think i might win one of those write like hemingway contests?
