back from dc, a quick trip but longer than i had expected. took the greyhound--i love looking out windows while driving, particularly bus windows, maryland grey winter dead-looking trees up to their trunk bottoms in swampy water, crisscrossed with uprooted trunks (speaking of trunks, i'm not sure if the kids understand when i ask them to try adding trunks to their tree drawings). speaking of which, i've hardly done anything today of what i wanted to do, which was to laminate kids' drawings and make books for each of them, and make christmas/holiday cards. i'm blaming it on the first day of my (.), cramps, tiredness, chocolate/cookie cravings.
highlights of dc trip (niether in temporal order nor order of importance):
1) listening to the hammerklavier sonata with martin on his big golden wood 70s general electric, but not really, speakers bought from some 70 something year old audio afficionado who's living in an apartment surrounded by a speaker collection gathered over the decades of his life.
2) overpriced lunch at 'la madeleine's french cafe and bakery' in alexandria virginia, then i left this navy ski hat i've been wearing on the table (i think it used to be my dad's), and more worrisome, martin left his keys, but luckily they were there when we went back 30 minutes later.
3) yoga next to the sink in the yellow tiled bathroom
4) learning how to take checks from martin
5) dancing with this guy with hands like brian fuiji to this cuban band
6) peaceful sleeping face
cynthia's got a crush.
glad to pick up and go across the country, breaking pattern for three weeks
