cynthia made a very tasty dinner tonight in honor of luke's last tabla playing for her kathak class, and to satisfy her chinese food craving--chowmein-y noodles with matchstick carrots, ginger, black mushrooms, chinese cabbage, onions; shrimp and tofu in sesame oil with green onions and garlic; some kind of leafy green vegetable, possibly without an english name, sauteed with garlic and oil. i mostly cleanedup while she cooked and chopped, and luke pulled out shrimp guts and put them in my pretty green cup. i played luke my tape of dripping water and it really pleased him--he told me about how the sound pattern, though seemingly random, is a chaotic attractor (i'm not sure that verb's right, a sign i guess that i only have a vague idea of what he's talking about). now cynthia is making little black doodles that look vaguely like shrimp guts (not really--at least not when you look closely). ahh, much good socializing this evening. earlier, after rehearsal this afternoon, we went with sally over to luke's to have mmmrich organic whole milk chai and pomegranate and apple-pear.
this week is slightly hectic with working and rehearsals, and trying to find time to fix windshield wipers and do christmas cards and presents (i'm making my kids little books of some of the drawings they've been doing), and lots of evening fun, dinner at sharon's tomorrow, and jazz with dan thursday night, and possibly to dc this weekend. i've re-begun yoga practice which makes me feel much more solid inside.
and still, the mouse is making flickery metal noises in the vicinity of the oven.
