the sun came out again--i guess the clouds are moving fast this morning. again, a cold has hit. i called in sick yesterday and took airborn all day, but i don't think it helped that i stayed up till nearly three and ate lots of delicious food for dinner, some of it being allen's delicious chocolate/vanilla checkerboard cake--and then cynthia's food, cynthia's food...everything had chinese names so those won't really be helpful as far as description--
this starchy thing made from grated daikon radish, rice flour, and water, steamed in the oldskool rice cooker, then sliced and fried, and dipped in garlic and soy sauce
shrimp or pork mixture wrapped in green leaf lettuce with crispy rice noodles
sticky sweet rice with black mushrooms, shallots, and soysauce, and dried shrimp
string beans sauteed with pickled mustard greens
firm tofu fried in egg/flour batter in soysauce, salt, sugar, green onions
seafood soup with shrimp, scallops, and silken tofu
a whole steamed chicken
i think that's it. anyways, the remainder of this meal is still very much in the kitchen, the chicken part particularly grossing me out (there was a bowl of drippings in the sink before rebecca got started on the dishes).
i'm afraid tonight's performance might be rather halfass, as cynthia's neck has been messedup all week so we haven't been able to rehearse, and i feel pretty icky from this cold. ah, well. so many elements of uncertainty to live performance. and now i have to go sew some details on our costumes--i always think of grandma bobbie when i sew. the kids at the daycare love my alphabet book. actually, i think their fascination with it may actually be helping them learn their letters, and not just by rote but actually start connecting how the letters make up the phonetic underpinnings of the words they use.
